I Fought the Law

  • Categories: Art

Strange, outdated laws from each of the 50 U.S. states—some overturned, some still on the books, and some merely the stuff of legends—are depicted with sly wit by Olivia Locher. Incisive, ironic, and gorgeous, these images will appeal to art buffs and trivia fans alike. A foreword from American poet Kenneth Goldsmith and an interview with the artist by Eric Shiner, former director of the Andy Warhol Museum, contextualize rising-star Locher's photography. From serving wine in teacups in Kansas to licking a toad in Kentucky or perming a child's hair in Nebraska, breaking the law has never looked so good.

Amanda Charchian: Pheromone Hotbox

"Amanda Charchian: Pheromone Hotbox," the first monograph from Los Angeles-based photographer Amanda Charchian (born 1988), brings together work shot by the artist between 2012 and 2015. Working around the idea of the "Pheromone Hotbox" that occurs when a woman photographs another woman--a title Charchian lent to a 2014 group exhibition at Stephen Kasher Gallery in New York--Charchian photographs her female artists, nude, in dramatic locations across the globe, including in Iceland, France, Costa Rica, Morocco, Israel and Cuba. Simultaneously dreamy and erotically charged, Charchian's "Pheromone Hotbox" photographs capture the intensity and intimacy of the interaction between artist and model. In addition to exhibiting her fine art photography in museums and (TAKE OUT) galleries internationally, Charchian is also well known for her fashion and commercial work, which has appeared in numerous international publications, including "Vogue," "Huffington Post," "i-D," "Interview," "Garage" and "Purple" magazines.

Over the Edge

Editorial Reviews "The third book in Wild’s Bridge series is a fantastic read, certain to woo new readers and satiate her returning fans. Over the Edge checks off all the boxes: it’s emotional, intense and extremely sexy. Wild taps into an often thought of as taboo fantasy — one woman sharing two men — and makes it a possibility, allowing the reader to live vicariously through the main character. While this is part of the Bridge series, it’s also effective as a standalone novel." -RT Book Reviews "Sinful, emotional, explosive, profound...this is all the best we know and love from Meredith Wild, cranked to an epic Level 11. You will not be able to put it down." -USA Today Bestsellin...

IOWA

In the early 1970s, Nancy Rexroth began photographing the rural landscapes, children, white frame houses, and domestic interiors of southeastern Ohio with a plastic toy camera called the Diana. Working with the camera's properties of soft focus and vignetting, and further manipulating the photographs by deliberately blurring or sometimes overlaying them, Rexroth created dreamlike, poetic images of "my own private landscape, a state of mind." She called this state IOWA because the photographs seemed to reference her childhood summer visits to relatives in Iowa. Rexroth self-published her evocative images in 1977 in the book IOWA, and the photographic community responded immediately and strong...
